Established in 1968 by Jim O’Sullivan, the firm has grown steadily, building a solid reputation based on innovation, exacting standards, outstanding workmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Our headquarters, where it all began, remains in Donoughmore, Co. Cork, as does the main depot for our extensive range of plant and equipment.
The first major development by the firm was the successful completion of a 25 unit residential housing estate located in Summerhill, Mallow, Co. Cork. Following initial success in the Cork market, Summerhill expanded operations nationwide during the late 70’s and early 80’s, completing fit‑outs for well know names such as Nationwide Bank and Peter Mark Hair Salons, to mention but a few.
Commencing in the early 90’s, Summerhill secured the first of many projects for the Bon Secours Hospital Group – a partnership spanning over 20 years, and one that endures to the present day.
In recent times the company has carved out a niche as a leading provider of fit-out services to the food & beverage sector, with such high street brands as Starbucks and Kylemore Services (KSG) Cafés amongst our list of loyal clients. In all, Summerhill has completed some 60 Café/Restaurant fit‑outs nationwide. Elsewhere, our expertise in the area of car showroom construction has seen the company develop close working relationships with clients such as the Johnson and Perrott Group, for whom, to date we have completed the refurbishment of 2 existing car showrooms and the further construction of two 2 state-of-the-art showrooms.
Joining the business in the early 2000’s, Jim’s sons, Dan and James are the primary driving force behind the business, now entering its sixth decade at the forefront of the construction sector. Remaining true to the core principles upon which the company was founded, Dan and James with support from their sister Katie, have successfully navigated Summerhill through a challenging economic period – enabling the business to evolve and exploit opportunities in a number of new market sectors.
